Ethanol burn cleaner than regular gasoline but on the other hand, it burns faster.
I’m a mechanic and I have tested 100 different cars and trucks that have come into my shop for the number of miles a car travel on a gallon of ethanol compared to regular gasoline. The mileages decreased greatly, causing more trips to the gas pump, especially during the summer months when we drive more. I always wondered why our government added the 10% ethanol during the summer months:
Is it for cleaner air or for more tax dollars? You, the consumer may be able to answer this question, but it’s something to think about when it comes to bailout money. I call it squeezing the balloon—drop the cost of gas a few pennies then increase the consumption a few gallons. Now, gas burns faster during the summer months, because of the heat factor, but I did this test during the winter months as well in my shop, in the fall and under ideal situations, using a speedometer calibration and diagnostic tool.
